Irelands No.1 Tribute To The Red Hot Child Peppers!

The first thing to know about this tribute band is they don't just sound exactly like the real thing, they perform as if they were playing to millions, and it works, perfectly. It was harder to convince me that the band playing in Odd Mollies on Saturday night were not actually the real thing. Their stage presence captivated the audience pulling them close to the front row. This became evident when a young man came up to me and said "I had to check that the drummer wasn't Chad Smith!".

Some tribute bands tend to go overboard with their attempts to sound like the band that they are recreating but the Copy Peppers know where to draw the line and by doing so end up concentrating more on the sound they are creating. This in turn emitted a sound that was undeniably the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I couldn't help but feel excited when the first song they opened with was Dani California, a true fan favourite, which quickly brought me to my feet. In true Chili's style an improvised jam was performed at the beginning which caught the attention of the audience turning heads to listen to the sound that can only be described as "Chili funk".

It was clear to see that this band have put a lot of work into captivating this sound in order to perform live. The setlist that followed was packed with all the hits and when it comes to the Chilis, for those who don’t know, that’s a lot of songs! But I was also very impressed by the songs that were performed that true fans would appreciate. This included songs like “Aeroplane”, “Purple Stain” and “If You Have to Ask”. It became quickly evident to me that it would be difficult to find a song that the band don’t know how to perform.

Their ability to draw a crowd and get people dancing was very impressive.  It was obvious that the Copy  Peppers have done a lot of gigs in the past because their relationship with the crowd mirrored the best bands in the world. If you ever get the chance to see this band jump at the chance. With rumours spreading that the Chili's are in the studio recording a new album, the want for a RHCP experience is starting to emerge, this band will set you in the right frame of mind.

I would like to thank Martin, Dave, Adrian and Andrea for providing a fantastic gig and also for the interview which I promise is coming soon...
